  1. I have been nterested in astronomy for several years. I have a 10 inch mead. Sence I have moved to Birmingham from Cullman I have not really found an observing site. Me and my family are interested in joining the club but the main site is down. How and where do we join? Also we have tried on one failed attempt to observe at oak mtn but the weather was not favorable. We were interested in the star party on the 18. where at oak mtn do you observe?

  2. David, The star party on the 18th will be at Chandler Mountain. N33 54.533 W86 17.896, it is off IS 59 xit 166. New people normally meet at the Texaco at that xit, then someone will meet you and show you how to get to the observing site ,about 9 more miles, near horse pens 40. The web site should be back up before then with more information.

The star party at Oak Mtn is on the 25th. Xit 246 on IS 65 follow the signs to Oak Mountain State park. The entrance fee for the park is $3 and the gatekeeper will tell you how to get to the star party. It’s near the wildlife center.

The club has a bunch of friendly people, but be careful ,some of them actually think you can see interesting things in the sky.

There is a meeting at the planetarium on the Samford campus at 7pm on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. The members go to great pains to make them informative and interesting.

I’ll be at Chandler on the 18th, looking forward to meeting you if you can make it. I’ll be out of town for the rest of the month.

Maybe its time to have a discussion about good observing sites in the area.
