Chandler Mountain Star Party
The Chandler Mountain Star Party is scheduled for 04 December, 2010.
  
Oak Mountain Star party
The monthly Oak Mountain Star party will be on December 11, 2010 at the OMIC  at Oak Mountain State Park.
Bring the family and friends and enjoy a night under the stars.
The star party is free but there is a $3.00 park entrance fee.

DECEMBER BAS MEETING 
The monthly meeting for the Birmingham Astronomical Society will be held on
Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the Christenberry Planetarium on the Samford University Campus.
This months meeting is a Members Only Meeting. We will be conducting elections and celebrating our annual Christmas dinner with each other. The dinner will be held in the break room on the 1st floor (Take the elevator down 1 floor from the planetarium and go down the hall to the break room.

A Conversation with Neil deGrasse Tyson

The University of Alabama in Huntsville’s campus community is invited to a lecture with this year’s commencement speaker Neil deGrasse Tyson, Ph.D. The event “A Conversation with Neil deGrasse Tyson, Ph.D.” is in Wilson Hall, Room 001 at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 3. This months meeting will be on what to look for when buying that Christmas telescope for yourself or your family presented by Fred Rains!
The meeting will start at 7:00 P.M. and is open to the pubic.

Just a quick not to let you know that nominations are oprn for the officers for 2011 term.

Our current President, Scott Pellet, and Vice President, Ed Knight, have serverd their two  terms and will be stepping down in December to allow a new President and Vice President to take over.

In addition our secretary, Charlie Thompson, will be stepping down so we are also looking for a person to take over the duties of Secretary.

BAS JUNE OAK MOUNTAIN STAR PARTY CANCELLED

The Starparty scheduled for June 05, 2010 at Oak Mountain State Park has been cancelled due to the weather..
National Weather predicts a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. South southwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.

JUNE CHANDLER MOUNTAIN STAR PARTY

The Chandler Mountain Star Party is scheduled for 12 June, 2010. The starparty will start at 7:30PM.

We will meet newcomers and people needing assistance getting to the site at 6:30PM ( 1 hour before the star party start time) at the Texaco Station off exit 166, I59 North.

The Lyrids Are Coming
When : June 14-16 2010
The June Lyrids is a low-rate shower during which you could see up to 10 meteors per hour during its peak.
Normally you can also see maybe a half dozen or so meteors an hour. These sporadics are not associated with any meteor shower, but are just individual specks of dust that intercept the Earth. Some bigger fragments produce fireballs that can even brighten up the sky along the entire East Coast.

MAY BAS OAK MOUNTAIN STAR PARTY
On May 08, 2010 there is a Star Party scheduled for the Oak Mountain State Park.
This Star Party is free and open to the public, however there is a $3.00 per person usage fee for the Park.

MAY CHANDLER MOUNTAIN STAR PARTY
The Chandler Mountain Star Party is scheduled for 15 May, 2010. The starparty will start at 7:00PM.
We will meet newcomers and people needing assistance getting to the site at 6:00PM ( 1 hour before the star party start time) at the Texaco Station off exit 166, I59 North.

MARCH CHANDLER MOUNTAIN STAR PARTY
It’s March Madness at Chandler Mountain!
It’s time for the annual Messier Marathon! If you are brave enough to take the all night callenge!
The March Chandler Mountain Star Party/Messier Marathon is scheduled for Saturday March 13, 2009.
The star party start time is currently set at 5:00 PM.
If you need assistance getting to the site please contact us so we can make arangements to meet you at the I59 exit 166 Texaco Station 30 minutes prior to dusk (approx 4:30 PM)

February Oak Mountain Star Party

It appears that the weather is going to be cloudy (yes Again) for the February Oak Mountain Star party. All wether sites show between 90-100% cloud cover and 10-20% chance of rain for this evening so we are calling it off for this evening. We can’t control the weather.
